Gary Warren has been named vice president overseeing the Planning, Development and Environment Di vision at the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC). The MAC owns and operates Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and six general aviation airports in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
In his new role, Gary is responsible for planning, development and implementation of all MAC capital improvement projects. He also oversees MAC programs designed to minimize negative environmental impacts of airport operations, stewarding efforts to conserve energy and natural resources, reduce and recycle waste, minimize ground, air and water pollution, and administer the most extensive airport noise mitigation program in the United States.
“Gary oversaw all airfield enhancements related to the $3.2 billion MSP 2010: Building a Better Airport program, including design and construction of a fourth runway,” said Jeff Hamiel, the MAC’s executive director and CEO. “Over the last several years, he also helped oversee major improvements to some of the MAC’s general aviation airports, including the Anoka County-Blaine, Flying Cloud and St. Paul Downtown airports. More recently, Gary helped lead efforts to develop a long term plan for addressing infrastructure needs at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport through the year 2030. Gary brings to his new role the vision, skills and experience needed to ensure people in the Twin Cities can continue to enjoy one of the largest and most environmentally responsible airport systems in the nation.”
Prior to being named vice president, Gary served as director of airport development for seven years. He was director of airside development from 1998 to 2006, having first come to the MAC as an airport engineer in 1990. Previously he served as director of public works/city engineer for the city of Chanhassen, MN, and as a project and field engineer in the private sector.

A resident of Stillwater, MN, Gary holds a master’s degree in civil engineering with an environmental emphasis from Marquette University and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is a registered professional engineer and maintains a private pilot’s license.
